Fachsprachprüfung in Germany
All non-German-trained doctors must pass the Fachsprachprüfung for Medical Doctors. In order to be licensed in the United States, foreign doctors are required to pass a medical language test known as a Fachsprachprüfung. Here you’ll find all of the pertinent details concerning the medical language proficiency test.
Fachsprachprüfung Medicine
The approval for foreign doctors in Germany or the permission to temporarily practice medicine (i.F. Berufserlaubnis) requires a proof that confirms the necessary knowledge of the German language in order to perform the activity of a doctor in Germany, according to the Bundesärzteordnung 3 Abs. 1 Nr. 5. Passing the Fachsprachenprüfung serves as proof of this. The professional language certificate will be awarded to students who successfully complete the Fachsprachenprüfung.
There has been an agreement made at the 87th Health Conference on 26/27.06.2014 to demand understanding of technical language in a professional context for foreign physicians seeking a license to practice medicine at least at the language level C1.
Which individuals are required to pass a Fachsprachenprüfung?
In order to practice medicine in Germany, a doctor must pass the Fachsprachenprüfung if they can’t prove that they know enough about the German language to do so without a license.
For doctors with degrees from German-speaking universities, or from German-speaking high schools with general education requirements of at least ten years, or with vocational training requirements of at least three years in German, the Fachsprachenprüfung is not required.
Registration for the Fachsprachprüfung
Before registering for the Fachsprachprüfung, a physician must first apply to the appropriate state or district government for a license to practice medicine or a professional license. The authority then determines whether or not a Fachsprachprüfung is required. Otherwise, the state or district government contacts the federal state’s medical organization and provides the necessary paperwork. This doctor gets approached by the medical group after that. Typically, this is done through email. The physician is asked in this email to send the administrative fee for the Fachsprachprüfung over to the specified bank account. Physicians get a test date and other information for the professional language examination once payment has been received. The precise time and place of the test will also be informed. It will be deemed a failure if the doctor is late to the Fachsprachprüfung.
As a result, the doctor is exempt from showing up in person to take the Fachsprachprüfung. By submitting an application for a license or professional permission, this is taken care of automatically.
